Measure for Horse Blanket

The Old Gray Mare has written another simplified writeup that guides our customers when measuring for a horse blanket or sheet. I always say measure carefully, jot down the results. Then remeasure a second time. Hopefully, the numbers will come up the same and, presto, there is the size of the horse blanket.

The simple guide will ensure the horse blanket is perfect and fits exactly right. Your horse will really appreciate that!

Another thing to consider when you measure the horse is whether he is in blossoming coat - whether he is wearing his summer sleek coat. The best time to measure is in fall after the horse has grown his cold weather protective coat. For some horses - those that get wooly - this is important.

Now that you know his size, you are ready to get a stable blanket or other horse clothing that will fit perfectly. Never guess the size of the blanket. If the horse blankets are too snug or too large, the horse will be really bothered and may develop a rubbing habit. Get the right size and keep him comfortable by checking on how the horse blanket is wearing, your horse will forget completely that it's there and it will become like a "second skin."

And that's all there is to it.

My Patrick wears his horse clothing just like his own skin. He never gets rubs, the blankets stay in perfect position and he wears the blankets for years. He's lived with us for seven years and is still wearing the same blankets.
