How to Make Great Frozen Margaritas!
Save your dollars at the local watering hole – try this margarita recipe and my variations using fresh local ingredients for your next party. It is a darn great Frozen Margarita!
Ingredients for the Sweet/Sour Base:
8
medium Limes to equal 1 cup Lime Juice
7
Lemons to equal 1 cup Lemon Juice
1
½ cups of regular Sugar
1
½ cups of Water
Hint: Use Lemons and Limes at room temperature. With light hand pressure, roll each fruit back and forth on the table surface several times to release more juice.
Ingredients for salting each Glass:
Kosher
Salt or Sea Salt – your preference
Lime
Wedge
Ingredients for blending the basic Frozen Margarita:
1
¾ cups of Sweet/Sour Base
¾
cups Tequila – your favorite brand
¼
cup Triple Sec
2
full cups of ice
Step 1 – Prepare the Sweet/Sour Base.
From 1 Lime and 1 Lemon, peel strips of zest. Mix sugar and water in cooking pot and add the zest strips. Bring to a boil on medium heat, and stir well. Cool. After the sweet/sour mixture has cooled to room temperature, remove all zest strips and discard them. In the interim, juice 1 cup liquid from the Limes and 1 cup from the Lemons. Mix the juices into the Sweet/Sour Base and stir well.
Step 2 – Prepare the glasses
Use a shallow dish and cover bottom with an eighth inch salt. Rub each glass rim with the lime wedge. Dip firmly into salt to coat rim. To get rid of loose salt, snap glass with fingers or tap lightly on table surface.
Step 3 – Blend all ingredients.
Put ice, Sweet/Sour Base Mixture, Tequila and Triple Sec into blender. Use pulse several times; thicken and blend ingredients. Avoid over-mixing to prevent diluting the drinks.
Variations: My Sweet/Sour Base works for any of the following variations. It will keep nicely in the refrigerator for several days.
Variation No. 1 – Make a Peachy Margarita
When blending, use 1 ¾ cups Sweet/Sour Base, 2 cups frozen peaches, ½ cup Tequila, ½ cup Schnapps (Peach!), ¼ cup Sorbet (Lime works best) and the 2 cups of ice.
Variation No. 2 – Make your Margarita zesty
Hint: For this one, add a pinch of Chili Powder to the salt when you edge the glasses with salt. When blending, use ¾ cup Sweet/Sour Base, ½ cup Tequila, ¼ cup Brandy, ¼ cup natural Orange Juice, ¼ Tabasco pepper sauce, 2 cups of ice and add the secret pinch of chili powder for spice.
Variation No. 3 – Make a Fresh, Fruity Margarita
When blending, use 1 cup Sweet/Sour Base, 1 cup Tequila, ¾ cup Pineapple Juice, ½ cup Cream of Coconut (little hard to find) and 2 cups of ice.
Prepare these Margaritas and enjoy a fabulous time with your guests.
